In 2011, the Borough of Mifflinburg completed construction of a $15 million sewer treatment plant and collection system upgrade. Sewer service is provided individually to Borough residents and through an intermunicipal services agreement to three surrounding townships.
The Borough’s sewer treatment system, located on Gessner Lane, was constructed in the 1950 and upgraded in 1969, 1988 and 2008. The most recent improvement was made to meet the Chesapeake Bay Nutrient Reduction standards and to upgrade aging equipment. The Borough’s sewer treatment system is permitted and closely monitored by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. Stringent testing and monitoring are part of the daily operations and are also closely monitored for compliance with treatment standards.
