Property owners are responsible for maintaining their sidewalks in accordance with the Borough’s Ordinances. This means that if your sidewalks are out of vertical alignment by more than 1 1/4 inches, if the surface is broken up, pitting or disintegrating, or if it is out of horizontal alignment creating a safety hazard or drainage problem, then they should be replaced.
If the Borough observes these conditions in your sidewalk, or if a complaint is made, you can be required to make the repair within 60 days of notification.
Property owners considering replacement of sidewalks should contact the Borough:
- to make sure they understand the construction standards required and
- in case the sidewalk has been displaced (lifted) by a shade tree (so that you can seek reimbursement from the Borough, if properly requested and approved).
